Meditation

Buddhist meditation is fundamentally concerned with two themes: transforming the mind
using the mind to explore itself and other phenomena.

In Theravada Buddhism the Buddha taught two types of meditation: samatha meditation and vipassana meditation.

In Chinese Buddhism: it is chih kuan and Zen meditation.

The evidence of the early texts suggests that at the time of the Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, many male and female lay practitioners did practice meditation about 2,500 years ago.
