Lama Marut

Lama Marut (Venerable Sumati Marut) is fully ordained Buddhist monk and teacher extraordinaire. He was born in 1953 to a Second Generation Baptist Minister. He obtained his Ph.D. in the History of Religion from the University of Chicago in 1984. As a Sanskrit scholar and Professor of Comparative Religions, he taught at the University of California (Riverside), where he is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies.

In 2004, Lama Marut retired from university life and became ordained a year later. Thereafter Lama Marut tours the world, helping people develop clarity, happiness, and hope. However in 2019, Lama Marut passed away at his countryside home in East Gippsland, Australia. He was 66 years of age.
