1954 SIT Brickworks Estate

The Old Brickworks Estate (near Hock San Brickworks) off Alexander Road comprises of 372 terrace houses and 10 shops on a 4 hectares (ha) plot (95 DU/ha). Build by SIT (Singapore Improvement Trust) in 1954 at the cost of SGD $760,000 or about $2,000 per unit. It was one of the cheapest public housing project in Singapore by SIT as it was build using low-cost bricks and asbestos roof on wooden beams. SIT Rental for each terrace house was $25/month.
