Tai Wo Estate

Tai Wo Estate, completed in 1989, is a 20 hectares public housing estate in Tai Po District (New Territories, Hong Kong) which consists of 12 residential buildings with 9,000 dwelling units (DU) or a housing density of 450 DU/ha and housed 30,000 residents. The estate also included Tai Wo MTR station, its two adjoining plaza (market), 4 schools, a Tai Po district government offices building, fire station, ambulance depot and an electricity sub-station.

There are three 22 floors "New Slab" style blocks 1,800 dwelling units - Oi Wo House, On Wo House and Hang Wo House. They were built in 1989 as rental flats but in 2000 they were sold under the Tenants Purchase Scheme.

And six 35 floors  "Trident-3" style blocks with 4,800 dwelling units - Fook Wo House, Hei Wo House, Kui Wo House, Lai Wo House, Sun Wo House and Tsui Wo House. They were built in 1989 as rental flats but in 2000 they were sold under the Tenants Purchase Scheme.

Another three 35-floors "Trident-3" blocks of HOS housing project (Po Nga Court 2,400 dwelling units - Yat Wo House, Hing Wo House and Ka Wo House). Dwelling units varied from 120 sqft to 530 sqft.

2015 Update: A 380 sqft home in Sun Wo House (Unit 24, 32 Floor, Block 3 Tai Wo Estate) was quoted at HKD $2M (USD $260K) on the Government controlled secondary market scheme. This is double the price of similar units from private developers. Recently a 190 sqft studio flat at Mont Vert (4km away) also within Tai Po District was listed as HKD $2M.
